Top 5 places you must visit on your first visit to Thailand
Chiang-Mai.
Kick start your holiday by visiting the beautiful city of Chiang-Mai. A must-see for those who enjoy natural surroundings and scenic beauty. Located in the mountains of North Thailand, Chiang-Mai offers spectacular panoramic views of the Khun Tan Range.
Adding to the scenic beauty of the place are the elaborate Buddhist temples here, which include the 14th century Wat Phra Singh and the 15th century Wat Chedi Luang.
Chiang-Mai was the capital of the Lanna Kingdom. The old city of Chiang-Mai still retains some of the walls and moats from its history and are worth visiting.
Ko Tao
An island located in the Gulf of Thailand, Ko Tao, meaning ‘Turtle Island’, is one of Thailand’s most popular tourist spots. The city sees an influx of approx. three million visitors every year.
Ko Tao is famous for being the scuba diving destination of choice in Thailand. It also offers other adventure sports and activities like snorkelling, rock climbing, hiking and bouldering. The vibrant coral reefs under the azure blue waves at Ko Tao are home to a wide range of colourful and exciting sea creatures.
Ko Pha Ngan
Ko Pha Ngan is an island located in Southeast Thailand that is renowned for its monthly Full Moon Party at the famous Hat Rin Beach, so include this destination in your itinerary to witness some of the best parties and have the time of your life! The Full Moon Party happens only once a month as per the lunar cycle and is definitely not something to be missed, so plan your dates carefully!
We recommend that you reach Ko Pha Ngan a few days before the Full Moon Party and enjoy the other sights this beach destination has to offer before the real fun begins!
Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya
Located 80 kms north of Bangkok, at the confluence of the Chao Phraya and Pa Sak rivers, Ayutthaya was the capital of the Kingdom of Siam and the birthplace of the founder of Bangkok, King Rama I. Ayutthaya is named after the ancient Indian city of Ayodhya. The ruins of the old city here, are still preserved at the Ayutthaya Historical Park, which is internationally recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Interestingly, Ayutthaya, was also a prosperous trading port from the year 1350 to 1767 when it was destroyed by Burma.
A culturally rich city, every moment spent at this site is worthwhile and thus should not be missed when visiting Thailand.
